Anatomy & Movement with Mitchell Gold July 2017

An Alignment / Bodywork workshop focused on new techniques of observation and intelligent hands on techniques to analyze and resolve physical issues in the structure of your clients and students.

Overview
During the course of two afternoons, and a total of 6 hours we will learn how to:
  • ‘See’ patterns and imbalance in the body
  • ‘Listen’ with your hands to find the root of the physical restriction. Use hands-on bodywork techniques to improve flexibility.
Taught by Mitchell Gold, an Advanced practitioner of Structural Integration with a 35-year background in multiple bodywork disciplines. Mitchell leads workshops internationally in functional alignment, anatomy, structural bodywork and asana practice. Mitchell is also a practitioner and Authorized Level II teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Modules

During the course of two afternoons and the total of 10 hours the workshop will cover the following modules:

Module 1: Foundation in the Feet

Investigate the foot & knee as the first blocks in a stack creating ‘verticality’ in the body. Learn how strain or injury to this area impacts whole body alignment, flexibility, and power.

Module 2: Pelvic Balance

The pelvis as our center carries a major nerve plexus, vital organs, and the spinal ‘tail’. What are the components necessary to create physical and emotional well-being in life?

Module 3: Breath Capacity

In this section, we’ll investigate a structure which affects so much of our life: more space for breath holds the possibility of greater blood oxygenation, enhanced brain function, and heightened levels of movement.

Module 4: Spinal Health

The spine represents the primary vertical axis in the body in the face of an overwhelming force of gravitation. What keeps the spine resilient and out of danger? And how can we utilize gravity as a constructive force?

Module 5: Head & Neck Equilibrium

The cervical skeleton is lighter, more vulnerable, and provides for enormous dexterity in the movement of the head as a sensory structure. In this module we will look at how patterns across the body are revealed in the tensions and compensation of the head and neck.

Using theory, observation with hands-on techniques, led by advanced body worker and senior yoga teacher Mitchell Gold, these modules will develop your personal understanding of the body’s systems and structures and the interrelationship between structure, function, lines of strain and how to move more effectively.

About Mitchell Gold

Mitchell has been studying body, biomechanics and breath for decades. His intuitive understanding of movements patterns is informed by his work as an Ashtanga Mysore teacher and his experience with assisting practitioners across a wide range of movement disciplines through Structural Integration (‘Rolfing) to liberate their fascia so they can find freedom of expression in their discipline whether it be dance, cross fit, yoga or sport.

Structural Bodywork “Rolfing” Treatments with Mitchell Gold

“The Structural Integration (aka ‘Rolfing) sessions create alignment by manipulating fascia (specialized connective tissue) throughout the body, which frees the body to naturally stand straighter and taller.
These deep and methodical sessions are a combination of the Rolfer’s hands-on work and feedback to the client, in addition to the client’s participation through movement during the hour session.

The results of these session include the experience of freedom from old and chronic pain, better alignment and joint movement, and a greater sense of well-being.

While the recommended approach is a sequence of sessions which build upon each other, individual Rolfing sessions are deeply effective and the best place to begin to address alignment, physical trauma and chronic pain.
